Aloke Gupta
Aloke Gupta has extensive experience in High Tech & Energy sectors involving energy policies, technology-based business development, marketing, strategic planning, and business unit management, at senior leadership levels in Fortune 100 & startup companies and public sector organization.
Aloke is currently posted at the Energy Division of the California Public Utilities Commission, where he is focused on developing energy policies related to the intersection of the electric grid and emerging technologies, such as: Demand Side programs, Distributed Energy Resources, Energy Storage, Smart Grid, Renewables Integration, and Interconnection and other areas. At the Commission, he has been instrumental in overseeing and driving several major policy initiatives, including:
- Development of California’s third-party demand response integrated with CAISO energy market
- California’s mandate for Utilities to procure 1.3 GW of Energy Storage
- First ever utility procurement of large-scale, commercial grade energy storage projects
- Industry leading rollout of 17M smart meters across California involving $5B capex investments
- Landmark customer data privacy and third-party access rules
- Innovative programs in Smart Grid, Demand Side Management and Distributed Energy Resources
Prior to moving into the energy sector, Aloke had a successful career in Tech industries (networking, electronics), having worked at large companies (Lucent & Agere) as well as VC-funded startups. He held leadership positions in managing business unit P&L/operations, business development, product management functions, and cross-functional teams focused on launching new technology initiatives.
Aloke’s academic training includes MSEE/MBA degrees from Stanford and Lehigh Universities, along with BS-Engineering Physics from Lehigh.
