Lance Atkins is Sr. Principal Engineer of e-Powertrain Technical Affairs in Nissan North America’s Technology Planning and Research department where he’s spent the last 10 years engaged in vehicle-grid integration and vehicle bidirectional charging activities.  He started work in electric vehicles during the mid-1990’s on Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) grants as a contractor to Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and went on at Nissan to operate data collection and analysis for the Nissan Altra EV which was the first production lithium-Ion battery EV.  His data from the Altra EV later went into establishing the technical specifications for the Nissan LEAF.  Lance has worked at Nissan for the last 24 years and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
